These are a must during Eid celebrations. You will find them in every Sudanese home on special occasions. They are so light and crumbly and disappear in seconds once you bite into them. Such a special delicacy.
Prep time: 20 mins – Cook time: 10 mins – Total time: 30 mins

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup ghee
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 egg white
  • 2 ½ – 3 cups flour
  • Pinch of salt
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Chocolate Chips or Cloves

Equipment:

Measuring cups and spoons
2 large bowls
Electric whisk (handheld)
Baking tray lined with parchment paper or buttered and floured.

How to…..

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit/176 degrees Celsius

Mix the flour, salt, vanilla and baking powder. Beat the ghee with the sugar until well combined and smooth. Then add the egg white and beat. Add the flour mixture and combine by hand. Once it’s well combined you can start shaping the biscuits into round balls by taking about 1 tablespoon of dough and rolling it into a ball shape. If you want to do it the traditional way, instead of chocolate chips, insert a clove into each biscuit before you put it into the oven. If you want to use chocolate chips, place them after you cook the biscuits but while they’re still warm. Place the chocolate chip in the center of the cookie and gently press down so they’re firmly embedded in the cookie. Bake for about 10 minutes until slightly golden. Remove from the oven and let it cool completely.
