Combine your favorite flavors – chocolate, oreos and whipped cream…you get this decadent chocolate cake which is mushy and soft and the whipped cream topping literally melts in your mouth. I love the chilled feeling when you bite into it. My nieces say its on the of the best cakes they ever had…along with Tres Leches of course.
Prep time: 45 mins – Cook time: 30 minutes – Total time: 75 minutes

Ingredients:

Cake

  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar (I usually only use 1 cup sugar so the cake is not overly sweet)
  • 1 ½ cups cocoa
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 1 ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoon salt
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 ½ cups buttermilk
  • 1 ½ cups hot water
  • ½ cup oil

Chocolate Sauce

  • 2 cups milk
  • 3/4 cup sugar (or less if you want less sweetness)
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Whipped cream topping and oreo crumbs

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream, cold
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups chopped Oreos
  • 12 Oreos, crushed

Equipment:

Measuring cups and spoons
9*13 inch / 23 * 33 cm cake pan, lined with parchment paper or buttered and floured
Handheld electric whisk
2 large bowls
1 large saucepan or pot
1 medium bowl

Spatula

Chop stick or wooden spoon

How to…..

In a large bowl, mix all the dry ingredients well. Then add the wet ingredients and beat with a handheld electric whisk until just combined. Pour into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30 mins at 350 F/176 C.

Now make the chocolate sauce while the cake is baking. In a large heat proof pan mix all the ingredients under medium low heat. Keep stirring until the sauce thickens. Set aside.

Remove cake from oven.

While the cake is still warm, using the end of a wooden spoon or chop stick poke holes all over the cake – several rows of holes all over the cake. Let it cool for just a few minutes.

Pour the hot chocolate sauce all over the cake and spread it with a spatula so it goes into the holes. You may have some chocolate sauce left over.

Let the cake cool completely. You can chill it in the fridge if you wish.

Whipped cream topping

In a medium bowl, break up the 12 oreos into crumbs. Alternatively, you can put them in a plastic bag and beat down with a rolling pin or masher. Set aside. You will scatter them over the cake later.

In a large bowl combine the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, cocoa and vanilla. Beat with the electric mixer until soft peaks form. Stir in the 2 cups of chopped oreos. Spread the whipped cream on top of the cooled cake.

Scatter the Oreo crumbs over the cream.

Keep the cake chilled in the fridge.
